VIEW Premium Selection – Preview Textile Fair posts Rise in Visitors

New Looks, Textile Innovations & Sustainability form
Focal Points for Spring.Summer 2020
Two very well attended days at the trade fair, a growing openness to new looks and textile innovations and a suitably creative line-up featuring some 400 high-quality collections – this sums up the latest VIEW Premium Selection held in Munich from 4 to 5 December with its comprehensive overview of the new 2020 Spring.Summer season.
Welcoming the numerous purchasing teams, designers and product managers from leading European brands MUNICH FABRIC START’s Preview Textile Fair was very well attended over both days. The event was able to follow on from the growing visitor numbers posted at the last edition of VIEW in July which closed with a total plus of nearly 1,000 more visitors – a 4% rise over last year’s event.
This early and sustained opportunity to sound out the market is currently gaining new significance within a promising environment. This is because a big innovative push is now coming from fabrics themselves. With their texture, character and shape retention properties these now determine silhouettes and styles. This means sportiness through to the megatrend of athleisure is largely defined by the new fabrics looks. Furthermore, at the forefront of fashion there is a new desire for striking styles and intense colours. Though the wider market is also seeking renewal. This is both a challenge and opportunity for buyers and upstream textile suppliers alike who are meeting these market demands with a broad spectrum of new material blends, innovative finishes and surprising textures.

“We are seeing a greater openness towards new themes on the part of customers”, says Frank Weber who regularly exhibits with Velcorex at VIEW. In the past it often took several seasons before new fashion collections were taken up. Today, conversations here develop more quickly. This is also confirmed by the majority of exhibitors and visitors.
“We come to VIEW to see new developments at a very early stage. And these expectations are also met. What’s more, this date a few weeks ahead of the major textile fairs is ideal for introducing other new themes to suppliers. This is the event’s key asset. Currently, we are seeking lovely, washed linen fabrics for our 2020 Pre-Spring Collection.”
Guido Ostländer, Head of Design Menswear at Cinque.
Grainy textures and natural irregularities are being talked up in many quarters for Summer 2020 – translated as linen and linen blends or wool admixtures. Alongside this, sporty themes with nylons, cotton coatings and laminates for outerwear together with workwear inspirations are also becoming a promising topic. Classic checks and stripes take on a new twist thanks to new colours combinations or in a mix and match with prints. The colour scheme contrasts with those now tried and trusted summer darks in radiant, optimistic base tones with many fresh greens, yellows and an array of apricot through to red tones. There is lots of movement in menswear.
“Many customers are very consciously seeking non-flats. So things can now also become higher contrast in menswear and for summer thanks to textures and three-dimensionalities.”
Nicola Aldo Küpfer from Niggeler und Küpfer
This means menswear fabrics are suitably multifaceted: alongside a new take on stripes, jacquards and sporty checks, striking geometrics can be found here through to micro patterns with a feminine slant.
The general idea is to create a line-up for an up-and-coming consumer base that breaks with traditional patterns in an entirely unbiased and “uncategorised” way, one that prefers an age and gender-neutral clothing style and, at the same time, seeks answers to the pressing issues of our time in the handling of resources. This was also the topic in intense conversations at the fringes of the trade fair as well as over lunch or in the evening when colleagues wound down from their day at the fair at VIEW X-Mas Moods.

In this context it becomes clear that the topic of sustainability is meeting ever greater acceptance, as confirmed by manufacturers Tejidos Royo or C.Pauli. Even the sometimes 100% higher prices are accepted by ever more end consumers – which in turn impacts the buyers of fabric collections. At the same time, there is an increasing expectation that sustainability will no longer be restricted to the product itself. Instead, the entire manufacturing process is moving into focus – starting from certified weaving mills through to the use of organic findings like buttons and tapes. Manufacturers have expanded this product range accordingly.

In these times of reduced budgets and capacities purchasing teams face new challenges. Fabric manufacturers meet buyers halfway here by also stepping up creativity levels early on.
“The move to VIEW three seasons ago definitely proved a good one. Here we have a high-quality flow of visitors, a functioning network of agents and suppliers and everywhere a unique atmosphere. This entire setting is sure to have contributed to our positive business growth. Even the date of this event plays more and more into our hands as today we can take on new developments much earlier and also adapt them to the market.”
Alessandro Jentzsch, Cangioli
Suppliers at VIEW have also adapted their portfolios to suit purchasing requirements. In addition to 80% of the finished summer collections many exhibitors also offer winter repeat ranges or immediate ranges. To supplement this the amount of early information via trend offices and colour specialists has seen a continual rise over recent years.
"VIEW’s continuing positive development confirms that in this sector since 2008 we have offered the perfect platform at the right time. The positive feedback from the market, the great appreciation of the services offered and the unique atmosphere all provide the right setting to further develop collections and individual topics interactively in direct exchange with suppliers at VIEW.”
Sebastian Klinder, Managing Director MUNICH FABRIC START

This means that also in its 10th year VIEW as a sector-wide offensive rises to the new challenges of the market in a productive way. This is appreciated by a growing community who VIEW has strengthened with its value promise for quality and innovation in its capacity as one of the most important preview trade fairs in Europe for over a decade now.
29 to 31 January 2019 already sees the next edition of MUNICH FABRIC START present one of the largest international line-ups of fabrics and additionals featuring the dynamic interactive KEYHOUSE as an area for forward-looking textiles and solutions plus the BLUEZONE as one of the world’s largest denim shows.

VIEW Premium Selection – the Special Preview Textile Fair. Exclusive, Innovative, Visionary, Emotional

10 years of VIEW Premium Selection. This means an “industry offensive” that has grown successfully over 10 years and 20 seasons, and a meeting fixture for the fashion sector to kick off the season. Initiated in 2008, VIEW has offered a premium portfolio of international weaving mills and findings manufacturers at an early date ever since – all in a special setting with optimum business services.

Over the course of this decade VIEW – as one of the most important preview trade fairs – has developed its own identity with its reliable continuity:

Based on these values VIEW Premium Selection dhas developed into the perfect communications platform for networking, in-depth dialogue and professional, efficient working. And what’s more: into a high-energy community that benefits from the positive atmosphere, mood and venue and gives priority to quality, innovation and all things special at the same time.

‘The individual touch of VIEW, the personal, sometimes family-like encounters, the warm welcome for guests are part and parcel of our DNA. All of these factors provide the perfect framework for successful business for all parties involved and act as the much-needed emotional counterpart to our often detached, digital world.’
Wolfgang Klinder, Managing Director MUNICH FABRIC START

From 4 to 5 December 2018 selected, internationally successful fabrics and additionals suppliers will exhibit to the tune of 400 collections for Spring.Summer 20. Supplementing the summery preview programmes will be numerous collections with short-tem delivery dates and for moda pronto and/or Winter 19/20. With this broad-based range VIEW responds to the trend toward continuous collection development beyond classic seasons.

‘With VIEW we have succeeded in launching a forward-looking concept with a strong Unique Selling Proposal at a very early stage. Embedded in the MUNICH FARBIC START and BLUEZONE scheduling it is clearly positioned both in terms of its strategy and content. And all of this is endorsed by the strong approval and support of the textile and fashion industry.’
Sebastian Klinder, Managing Director MUNICH FABRIC START

Due to this aspirational portfolio, which is already very dense for such an early date in the season, the increasingly international and renowned fashion brands come to Munich with ever bigger teams using the two trade fair days forassured planning of their collections. This applies to both the Woman, Man and Additionals segments and to Denim & Sportswear in their specifically designed area. Trend-setting design studios introduce visitors to the latest print and pattern developments for Spring.Summer 20. Information on the latest fabrics, colours and stylings for Spring.Summer 20 will come care of leading trend offices such as Peclers Paris, Laufer Fashion Consulting and The Trend Bunker. The latter will also offer exclusive trend seminars.

The new fashion themes are optimistic, bright and luminous in general. Rustic tones “mingle” with cheerful colours. All areas and facets of sustainability continue to dominate the ranges while re-oriented sportswear draws on street and workwear inspirations. Summer thrives on natural looks, linen, hemp, ramie and cotton. Prints preferably feature on fabrics with irregular surface textures. As always, the Trend Installation in the MVG foyer will provide topical, concrete examples of this.

Interest from potential new exhibitors is also high for the coming VIEW. Taking part in Munich for the first time will be Emil Jersey and the agency Fabian from Italy, Circleline Design Studio Limited from Great Britain, Paulo de Oliveira from Portugal as well as Fusion CPH from Denmark, to name but a few.

The entire assortment of collections on show at VIEW can be found at

Making its strongest appearance ever, VIEW Premium Selection last week presented over 400 collections for Autumn.Winter 19/20 from selected, international suppliers. It has become the favourite trade fair for the textile and fashion industries with high sympathy values and it confidently positions itself with its own DNA profile in a high-quality environment. After two continuously and very well attended days at the fair, VIEW closed on a clear 17% increase in visitors.

This is also impressively reflected in the concluding feedback from both visitors and exhibitors alike. VIEW's strategy and orientation as a platform for the industry, but above all WITH the industry, has been accepted, acknowledged and what’s more: it is really being lived out in real life.

'I especially appreciate the accomplished community feel of this trade fair, the real-life, face-to-face contact. You quickly get to the point and meet very innovative people. These are all criteria that convince me to come to Munich season after season.' Ferhat Kartal, Liebeskind

VIEW Premium Selection is increasingly becoming a driver for the industry. It offers the perfect communication platform for networking, in-depth discussions and professional and efficient work.

The atmosphere, spirit and venue are ideal and exude so much positive energy. The timing is perfect. Great for networking. The choice of vendors is definitely a success. Joseph Härle, Hugo Boss

Just as powerful as VIEW’s unique emotional nature is its quality range for the industry. Designers, buyers and product managers from influential and successful companies and brands love VIEW for its efficiency and intense atmosphere.

Short, concise, focused - that's VIEW for us. Therefore, it is synonymous with great efficiency and is extremely important. We are visiting with a men’s and women’s wear team. For men’s wear we are already starting new developments for the Autumn/Winter collections in May, which is why in some cases we are already collecting samples here at VIEW and initiating developments which we will finalise at MUNICH FABRIC START.
Thorsten Schmidt, Joop!

This trade fair with its early date is becoming more and more important. We need the samples, especially for the first collection in late September. This is why we are travelling to VIEW in Munich with a big team, so we can split up to cover the various themes. We very much appreciate the ambience and the ranges of the fair. After the collection handover in Berlin a few weeks earlier, VIEW is very much the mental kick-off for the new season.
Ulrich Schulte, Riani

Exhibitors at VIEW were more than satisfied with the numerous new additions in both women’s and men’s wear as well as in the specially designed area for denim vendors at the MVG workshops.

We had a sensational first day at the fair. Overall, VIEW has exceeded our expectations. For some time now, we have been observing how VIEW is gaining in importance, especially – but not only – for men’s wear. It has long since grown out of an initial discussion platform for early exploration into a proper trade fair where strategic decisions are taken.
Frank Weber, Velcorex

At VIEW browsing is becoming more and more concrete. Manufacturers have also prepared themselves for buyers’ needs with 80% to 90% of them exhibiting nearly finished collections here at VIEW now. The extra attraction here is that there is still some leeway and scope for targeted further developments and highlights.
Frank Engler, Agentur Frank Engler

The first day was packed for us. We have seen all key customers here. We even had to postpone some appointments to next week as in-house collection presentations since we were unable to cope with the sheer numbers. These early dates are becoming more and more important.
Thomas Nick Müller, Max Müller Textilagentur

After two busy days at the trade fair a very similar summary came from Thomas Püttmann who, like Max Müller, TTG and Tex-Research, presented his complete portfolio at the VIEW GALLERY for the second time now and who has already confirmed participation at VIEW Premium Selection from 4 to 5 December 2018.

The dates are perfect for us. Some of our customers have already closed deals at VIEW. Thanks to the arrangement with VIEW and the subsequent MUNICH FABRIC START we enjoy absolute planning security.
Thomas Püttmann, Püttmann Textilagentur

In the intense conversations and discussions at the stands, in the aisles but also over lunch or sundown drinks in the summery styled outdoor area, pricing and the drastic rise in exclusive developments were the most debated topics. Here, more than ever, suppliers are required to implement customer requirements quickly and creatively. This necessitates maintaining a permanent dialogue with many staff. The creative process of fabric selection and collection design is increasingly being finalised at MUNICH FABRIC START running from 4 to 6 September 2018.

The quantities ordered from fabric suppliers tend to be smaller and smaller. This requires keen calculations – and this was a view held unanimously among stakeholders. However, necessary price increases due to low margins are currently hard to assert on the market. On the one hand, there is far too much merchandise on the market and, on the other, there is enormous competitive pressure at the PoS regarding price and market share. However, this aspect was not able to dampen the positive mood at VIEW overall.

With VIEW we have succeeded in establishing a unique trade fair format that thrives on the commitment and emotional intelligence of all parties involved. As trade fair organisers we have offered these dates for ten years now as a perfect platform for a powerful community eager for discussion in a demanding and currently often stressful environment that calls for face-to-face exchange more than ever. Dates, location and ranges are consistent. Our visitors are convinced by the honest hospitality encountered here.
Sebastian Klinder, Managing Director MUNICH FABRIC START

The big fashion theme dominating VIEW was wool and/or wool looks. There are innumerable innovative themes in this segment providing new impulses. Like in the area of coloured wovens with fascinating surfaces and effects due to a new take on stripes or checks, interwoven Lurex threads or randomly placed lower-count yarns. There is also an avid interest in fur and fake fur as further highlights – both in conjunction with technical surfaces and for the fancy-fashion segment. As a matter of principle, winter will be revived by the numerous neon and intense colours that work well with the prevailing dark tones and are already now meeting with a great deal of approval.
